The Executive Coordinator of Better Nigeria Initiative (BNI), Pharm. John Oluwadero has been appointed by the Commonwealth Secretariat to serve as the Africa Regional Representative for Commonwealth Youth Sport for Development and Peace (CYSDP). This was made known in an appointment letter dated 15th January 2016, signed by the Oliver Dudfield, the Head of Sport for Development and Peace, Commonwealth Secretariat. The understanding of SDP, and networks across grassroots and community based organisations was considered as a particular strengths for his appointment.
John, a renowed Youth Worker, Social Entrepreneur and Pharmacist, graduated from the University of Ibadan in 2015.
Before his appointment, Oluwadero had served as the Commonwealth Students’ Organiser (Nigeria) for Commonwealth Students’ Association (2014-May 2015). He is a Country Ambassador for the World Bank Group Young Africa Society and a Member of the Youth Humanitarian Working Group of the UN Major Group on Children and Youth.
He is a 2016 Queen of England Young Leader Award Runner Up (Nigeria) and one of the Commonwealth Young Achievers.
Established in May 2013, Commonwealth Youth Sport for Development and Peace (CYSDP) is a working Group of the Commonwealth Secretariat consisting of ten young development practitioners committed to advocating and promoting the use of Sport for development and peace.
Plans are underway on the inclusive engagement of young people in Africa in the CYSDP activities, especially the CYSDP Regional events such as International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (April 6) and Commonwealth Regional Sport for Development and Peace (SDP) Advocacy Workshop.
