Call for Applications: Certificate Course in Data Analysis for Research and Development (DARD)

Applications are now open for students, corps members, young researchers, scientists and career professionals to apply for the Certificate Course in Data Analysis for Research and Development DARD.

DARD is an intensive two months research and data analysis capacity strengthening course strategically designed for students, young professionals, and entrepreneurs who are interested in acquiring required skills set in research, development policy, and data science, towards strengthening data-driven public policy, and knowledge-based economy for sustainable development.

The key to Africa’s sustainable development and growth relies on policies that are informed by reliable and timely data. Reliable, accessible and processed data is strategic towards promoting good governance and accountability, and increasingly to inform decision-making, capital investment and risk assessment within the private sector. Policymakers in sustainable development practice have recently introduced the term ‘knowledge-based economy’ which is used to describe innovation activity that focuses on the role of technology, information and learning in economic performance.

Through DARD, participants will learn the ‘what’,  ‘how’ and ‘why’ of research for development; develop competence on data management and analysis using Excel and SPSS tools; and identify effective ways research findings can be translated and utilized for evidence-based policy making, funding and action.


Precious Adebola: holds a Masters of Public Health MPH degree in Health Promotions from the University of Ibadan. She is a Public Health Research Associate at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. In her capacity as a Senior Research Fellow at the Building Nations Initiative (BNI), she has led several youth work research, and recently the UNESCO sponsored Youth Civic Engagement research.

David Ajayi trained as a Pharmacist at the University of Ibadan where he graduated with Distinctions. His background in clinical sciences and public health spur his interest in the pursuit of his Masters in Public Health MPH degree in Epidemiology and Medical Biostatistics. He is a Principal Data Analyst at DataRev Analytics since 2015 where he harnesses his clinic science background, data science and research competence to advance diseases surveillance and public health practice in Nigeria.

John Oluwadero: earns a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree at the University of Ibadan and currently undertaking a Masters of Public Health MPH degree in Monitoring and Evaluation at same University. As a 2018 Fellow of the Nelson Mandela School of Public Governance, University of Cape Town, John has researched extensively on the role of informal sector in creating work opportunity for young people in Nigeria. He has also facilitated the implementation of a UNESCO supported research on Youth Civic Engagement.

As an early career Public health Pharmacist, he has worked on projects funded by USAID, Global Fund and PEPFAR on procurement and supply chain management of health commodities with integrated programming in sexual and reproductive health, family planning, Tuberculosis, malaria and HIV/AIDS, cross-cutting technical areas such as commodity quantifications, forecasting, ware housing and health systems strengthening. He has also served in the Commonwealth Youth Programme as Africa Regional Representative (2016-2017) and Advocacy Focal Person (2018-Feb. 2019) for the Commonwealth Youth Sports for Development and Peace Working Group. In this capacity, he harnessed his research skills towards influencing public policy through advocacy.

John is the President/CEO of Building Nations Initiative (BNI), and a 2018 Honoree of the Junior Chambers International JCI Ten Outstanding Young Person in Nigeria National Award.

Classes schedules: Saturday and Sunday; 2pm to 5pm

Commencement of classes: Saturday 6th July 2019.

End of Course: Sunday, 24th August 2019

Final Examination: Saturday, 31st August 2019.
